Maintaining after Weight Loss

  March 7, 2012-03-05

It may appear hard to believe, but taking the weight off is the easy task. Retaining weight loss for good is where the real test lies. If you’re like many dieters, you have tried countless diets only to gain the weight back. People lose weight on diets every day, but a high percentage of them gain it back.

To maintain that healthy new weight loss, the National Weight Control Registry suggests:
·         Increase activity, (including formal exercise) sports, physical work or recreational activity.
·         Include weight training, or any form of weight resistance exercise program
·         Track and monitor everything - count and track calories and nutrients, measure your food portion sizes, plan your meals and menus in writing and monitor your body weight.
·         Avoid excuses such as "I don't have time to exercise," instead try saying; "I can always make time for what is most important to me.” Remember, it’s your choice to maintain positive beliefs and attitudes towards your environment and what you perceive as barriers.
When I work with a client who has successfully lost weight, I encourage them to continue on with the new exercise program. I remind to eat breakfast every day along with 4 small meals. But the best advice; don’t allow yourself to get caught up with hours in front of the computer or TV.
